Inspired by the character and restraint of a traditional gentleman’s lounge, this members bar is conceived as a refined and intimate environment for club members and their guests.
The design balances familiarity with a contemporary sensibility. Spatial planning is deliberately low-key, creating a sequence of enclosed and open areas that support both private conversation and shared experience. Seating is arranged to encourage comfort and proximity, reinforcing a sense of belonging and ease within the space.
Materiality is central to the atmosphere. Stone panelling establishes a grounded and tactile base, while timber battens introduce warmth and rhythm across walls and joinery. Brass detailing is used selectively, bringing moments of precision and quiet contrast. Together, these elements create a layered interior that feels both enduring and carefully resolved.
Underfoot, a custom tartan carpet in grey and white anchors the space with a subtle reference to heritage. This gesture reinforces the connection to traditional club interiors while remaining restrained and contemporary in expression.
Furniture selection draws from classic forms, reinterpreted through clean lines and refined finishes. Each piece is chosen for its clarity, comfort and longevity, contributing to a cohesive and considered interior language.
Lighting is soft and controlled, enhancing texture and depth while maintaining a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The result is a space that feels composed and intentional, with a clear balance between richness and restraint.
This project redefines the members bar as a contemporary lounge, grounded in tradition yet aligned with modern expectations of comfort, materiality and experience.
