LARGE SCALE INFRASTRUCTURE
ARCHITECTURE + MASTERPLANNING
Located in Mount Cottrell on the outer western edge of Melbourne, this project positions itself within a growing industrial and logistics corridor, where expansive sites and infrastructure support large-scale operations. The development combines a 12,000 m² cold storage warehouse with an integrated loading bay, forming a clear and efficient operational layout.
The architectural response is deliberately simple and legible. The building is composed as a singular volume, organised around function and movement. Loading areas are clearly defined, allowing for seamless circulation of vehicles and goods, while the internal warehouse maintains a controlled and highly efficient storage environment.
Materiality expresses a balance between weight and lightness. Precast concrete panels establish a grounded, durable base, while lighter elements introduce contrast and articulation. Native vegetation patterns are embedded within the concrete façade, creating a subtle reflection of the surrounding landscape. This approach softens the scale of the building and situates it within its broader rural-industrial context.
The façade reads as a two-part composition, where heavy and lightweight elements work together to create rhythm and clarity. This restrained expression reinforces the building’s purpose while offering a considered architectural identity.
To maximise the potential of the site, a solar array of 6,800 panels is integrated across the development. This infrastructure supports on-site energy generation and reduces operational impact, aligning the project with long-term sustainability objectives.
