ARCHITECTURE

This contemporary extension to a red brick home in Melbourne’s East reimagines the space for a growing family. The design introduces a striking contrast of concrete and metal, creating a bold addition that complements yet contrasts with the original red brickwork. Cascading vegetation softens the structure, blending modern materials with natural elements.

At the heart of the extension, a glazed stairwell offers transparency and light, linking the old with the new. Exposed brick accents ground the design, creating a seamless connection to the original home’s heritage. The layout is further enhanced by a terraced landscape, which includes a raised pool and a sunken fire pit, blurring the boundaries between the built form and outdoor living.

This design reflects a balance of form and function, creating an environment that caters to the family’s evolving needs while respecting the existing home. It’s a space where indoor and outdoor living flow effortlessly, offering a dynamic yet cohesive living experience.
