Located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, an area defined by established residential streets and growing community infrastructure, this mixed-use development brings together childcare, healthcare and residential living within a clear and cohesive architectural framework.
The ground plane anchors the project with a double-storey childcare centre and a contemporary medical practice, both designed with a focus on accessibility, clarity and everyday comfort. These uses establish an ակտիվ and community-oriented base, engaging directly with the street while supporting essential local services. Above and to the rear, residential dwellings are carefully positioned to maintain privacy while remaining connected to the broader site. The overall arrangement responds to the natural slope, allowing each component to step with the terrain and sit comfortably within its context.
Materiality is warm and deliberate. Brickwork provides texture and permanence, grounding the building within its suburban setting. Bronze-tinted glazing introduces depth and softness, creating a balanced façade that shifts subtly with changing light conditions. Composed forms and consistent structural rhythm guide the eye across the elevation, reinforcing a sense of order and cohesion.
Entries are clearly defined and legible, supporting intuitive movement across the site. Communal areas are open yet controlled, encouraging interaction while maintaining operational clarity. The childcare centre is designed to foster safety and exploration, with adaptable internal spaces and direct access to outdoor play areas. The medical practice prioritises efficiency and patient comfort through clear circulation and well-resolved planning.
Residential dwellings benefit from quieter outlooks and layered landscaping, offering a sense of retreat within a connected environment. This project demonstrates how integrated planning and refined material expression can support diverse programs while remaining grounded, functional and enduring.
