Bridge St

MIXED USE

ARCHITECTURE

Located in Melbourne’s inner north, adjacent to the picturesque Banksia Park, the Bridge St project is a thoughtful and elegant example of mixed-use architecture. Designed to embrace both community and tranquillity, the project brings together residential spaces, a meditation space, short-term accommodation, and a restaurant within a unified design that celebrates its natural surroundings and fosters connection.

As the client expressed, “It’s a beautiful park I want to enjoy—not just for myself, but as a space to welcome others into our meditation centre, restaurant, and to share the views.” That vision guided every aspect of the project’s design approach, from form to material selection.

The built form features large, sweeping curves that soften the transition between building and landscape. These organic shapes echo the contours of the nearby park and create a strong sense of harmony with the environment. Homes, accommodation, restaurant, and meditation spaces are nestled into these curves, providing views across Banksia Park and offering a feeling of peace, seclusion, and deep connection to place.

Landscape plays a vital role in the overall experience. From the highest point of the site, a carefully designed water feature flows downhill, passing beneath the building and re-emerging on the lower side. This movement not only connects the natural elevation of the land but also draws the eye through the site, enhancing the feeling of fluidity and calm.

To frame views and create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, concrete walls are used on the park-facing side to subtly define sightlines. In contrast, the restaurant incorporates extensive glazing to open fully toward the park, creating a welcoming, transparent edge that invites visitors to engage with the landscape.
Bridge Street is a place where architecture, nature, and community come together in a beautifully considered and enduring way.
