Kew House

RESIDENTIAL
ARCHITECTURE + INTERIOR DESIGN

This carefully considered refurbishment of a private residence in Kew introduces a striking rear extension and a second-storey addition, transforming the original structure into a generous and light-filled three-bedroom, two-bathroom family home. The design seamlessly merges contemporary architectural elements with the charm of the existing dwelling, resulting in a home that is both functional and character-rich.

At the heart of the new design is an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that flows effortlessly into the outdoor living space. A distinctive roofline defines this central zone, designed not only to create visual interest but also to maximise natural light and encourage passive cross-ventilation throughout the home. Expansive glazing and carefully positioned openings frame views of the surrounding landscape and enhance the connection between inside and out.

The extension’s form and detailing offer a bold contrast to the original facade. Custom-designed windows and refined structural elements create a distinctly modern language that clearly differentiates new from old, while still maintaining a dialogue with the existing architecture. This contrast celebrates the evolution of the home, honouring its history while embracing its future.

On the upper level, the new addition accommodates private bedrooms and a second bathroom, providing ample space for a growing family without compromising the home’s sense of scale or proportion. The layout has been tailored to support modern family living, with an emphasis on comfort, flexibility, and visual clarity.

Throughout the project, materials were selected for their durability, warmth, and ability to age gracefully. The result is a home that feels grounded and enduring, yet fresh and open. This Kew residence stands as a thoughtful response to its site, a confident architectural statement, and a highly liveable home for its residents.
