Latrobe Golf Club

INTERIOR

Located in Alphington, this members bar reimagines the traditional gentleman’s lounge within a contemporary club environment. Designed as a private retreat for members and their guests, the space offers a calm and low-key setting that prioritises comfort, familiarity, and quiet luxury. The intention was not to create spectacle, but to deliver a refined interior that feels enduring and considered.

The spatial layout is intimate and grounded, encouraging conversation and connection. Seating arrangements are deliberately composed to balance openness with enclosure, allowing both small gatherings and quieter moments. Lighting is layered and controlled, reinforcing the lounge atmosphere and contributing to a sense of warmth and depth.

Materiality plays a central role in shaping the experience. Stone panelling anchors the room, establishing a solid and tactile backdrop. Timber battens introduce rhythm and vertical articulation, softening the stone and adding warmth through natural texture. Brass detailing is integrated with restraint, providing subtle highlights that elevate the palette without excess.

Underfoot, a custom tartan carpet in crisp grey and white references heritage interiors while maintaining a clean, contemporary expression. The pattern brings identity and continuity to the space, grounding the furnishings and reinforcing the club’s legacy. New furniture was specified throughout, drawing on classic silhouettes and timeless finishes. Upholstery and joinery selections prioritise durability and comfort, ensuring longevity in both aesthetic and performance.

The result is a members bar that feels balanced and deliberate. Modern in its clarity yet respectful of tradition, the design creates a composed and welcoming environment that supports the social fabric of the club. It is a space defined by material richness, careful detailing, and quiet confidence.
